The grasslands and desert starts have reasonably flat open spaces so it's easy to build, but they don't have coal or oil nearby. Or you can just start slapping stuff down and see where that takes you. A base sticking out of a cliff, a tower, build around the terrain, etc. I keep a jetpack, so in one corner I just have all the foundations missing all the way to the ground so I can floor hop like that instead of using the stairs. I'll probably redo that, but I am hoping we get some real elevators and use that instead. I only have 1 stairwell currently and it sucks. I would build a stairwell at each corner of the base if possible. Saving on vertical height for me to climb to get to a different floor. Moving like sized equipment to the same floor lets me turn my 5 floor base into at least 10 floors. So properly sized floors are really important. 1x floor with Refineries on it can easily be 3-4 floors worth of space for other equipment. So that way I can minimize how tall my base will get over time. For instance I put the refineries on one floor that is much taller than say a floor that will only have manufactures or assemblers on it. Then build the tallest thing you plan on putting on that floor, and box in the whole area in. Build lengthwise enough to say have enough room for 100 constructors long ways, and still have enough room to walk around the entire shop floor. Leaving space on each side to walk to run more lines.

Place like 25 constructors side by side on platforms evenly, then take away 5 of them. It needs to be longer than it is wide imo.

Plus if you get a few containers of mats to rebuild with, you save yourself hours of gameplay.įirst thing I do is find a good location that has a bit of everything around it, with a LARGE floor plan, as I build multiple floors. I prefer to break down existing so I don't have to get milestones, slugs, and hard drives again. I used the 6 normal oil nodes in the south east corner of the map to support 144 fuel generators. Build a nice big power grid somewhere away from your base early on, this will save you from having to stop building every few hrs to add more power. in the same vein, if you are going to put walls up do this towards the end incase you have to reconfigure something. Give yourself plenty of room to expand, if you get your maths wrong you dont want to have to tear down a big chunk of your factory to fit in several more machines. You also end up setting up temporary factories to hit your milestones. Restarting is often just as time consuming as tearing down your current build. This will be a lot easier when vertical converys go live. Build vertically when possible, space is at a premium. Then follow the planning downstream to see how many machines you will need.

Ie: X supercomputers per min, X heavy mod frames per min. Set your goals early and plan backwards. Having raw ore coming into a main base makes your main base ridiculously massive. Smelt your ore at or between nodes away from your main base.
